THE SUMMIT WINS AT THE 2010 GEMINI AWARDS

Saturday night at the Gemini Awards Gala THE SUMMIT took home top honours in the category of Best Dramatic Mini-Series, capping off what has been a successful awards season for the two-part mini-series.

“We’re thrilled by the success of The Summit and the recognition the team has received for their outstanding contributions,” says Producer Robert Cohen.

Media Headquarters would like to congratulate John Buchan and Jason Knight who took home the award for Best Achievement in Casting, and Tom Third who won in the Best Original Music Score for a Dramatic Program, Mini-Series or TV Movie, for their work on The Summit.  These awards were presented earlier during the Industry Presentations.

THE SUMMIT received a total of nine Gemini Nominations. The Gemini Awards Gala was hosted by Glee’s Cory Monteith and recognizes excellence in Canada television.

THE SUMMIT GARNERS 9 GEMINI NOMINATIONS

THE SUMMIT has received nine Gemini Nominations including Best Dramatic Miniseries. Media Headquarters is thrilled that so many members of the talented production team have been honoured and would like to congratulate all of the nominees.

Media Headquarters is grateful for the support of CBC and Global who championed this timely and provocative subject matter. Set on the eve of the G8 Summit of world leaders, THE SUMMIT is an explosive two-part mini-series about a mother’s desperate struggle to bring justice to her murdered son.

The 25th Annual Gemini Awards, celebrating the best in Canadian television, will be held this November, in Toronto. Best of luck to the nominees!

Souvenir Of Canada

A feature-length documentary based on the best-selling books by author Douglas Coupland, released theatrically by Maple Pictures.

Souvenir of Canada weaves a cinematic tapestry of original footage, extraordinary archives and stylized animation, inspired by Coupland’s essays. The film also profiles Coupland as an artist, as he creates an elaborate installation project called Canada House in Vancouver.

“It’s never felt as different to be Canadian as it does right now,” asserts Coupland, who describes the project as “a very personal X-ray of Canada.”

A co-production with The National Film Board of Canada.

The Four Seasons Mosaic

The Four Seasons Mosaic is Media Headquarters’ award-winning documentary about an extraordinary collaboration between some of classical music’s most respected musicians. In 2004, composer Mychael Danna joined forces with the world-acclaimed orchestra Tafelmusik, as well as top performers from India, China, Italy and the Canadian Arctic, to create a spectacular concert performance that celebrates the music of a global village. It is a bold orchestral undertaking that re-imagines Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons for the 21st Century.

Le Mozart Noir: Reviving A Legend

LE MOZART NOIR resurrects the lost genius of Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a black composer famous in 18th century France. The son of a slave, Saint-Georges overcame adversities of class, race and prejudice to become a musical star who would inspire Mozart. Tragically, his music and legacy were lost to history. Canada’s internationally acclaimed Tafelmusik Orchestra champions Saint-Georges’ long-silenced music.

The Travellers: This Land Is Your Land

Mentored and encouraged by folk legend Pete Seeger, The Travellers’ songs cemented cultural unity across a young, sprawling country. Featuring classic songs and rare archival footage from the early days of television, the film is an epic tour of folk music, Cold War politics, and the growth and disillusionment of the Left.

Atom Egoyan: A Road To Elsewhere

This highly acclaimed film chronicles Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Atom Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica) as he returns to the theatre to direct a new opera. Working in collaboration with composer Rodney Sharman, and renowned opera producers Tapestry New Opera, the film observes Egoyan as he navigates between two worlds – a writer/director challenging the boundaries of opera, and an internationally successful film director. It also chronicles Egoyan’s journey reaching back into the beginning of his extraordinary career.
