November 2, 2015 – CBC’s competition series, CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON unveils its sixth round of participants, including a CFL player, a medical student, a project manager and a bassoonist who will go head-to-head on Sunday, November 8 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) for the chance to take home the ultimate intelligence title. In last week’s episode, IT security executive Alex Manea earned a spot in the season finale, and will have the chance to be crowned “Canada’s Smartest Person.”

In the sixth episode of the season BC Lions wide receiver Marco Iannuzzi of White Rock, BC, medical student  Amanda Khan of Toronto, ON, project manager Permadi Witjaksono of Winnipeg, MB and bassoonist Margaret Fay of Halifax, NS will go head-to-head, competing for a place in the finale. The participants were chosen after under-going a rigorous application process including a series of tests to prove they have what it takes to compete for the title of “Canada’s Smartest Person.” Appearing as a judge in this episode is creator and star of Schitt’s Creek, Dan Levy.

Hosted by Jessi Cruickshank, CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON is an innovative, original competition series based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Each week, four participants compete in a series of challenges in six areas of intelligence (linguistic, logical, visual, physical, musical and social) that redefines smart. This season features even more action-packed competition marked by bigger, bolder, mind-bending challenges that push participants to their limits. It also includes an all-star line-up of celebrity judges.

Each week, viewers can play along in real-time with the ground-breaking CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON app, available for iOS and Android devices. The app syncs to every broadcast allowing viewers to participate with each challenge in the show in real time. October 26, 2015 – CBC’s competition series, CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON unveils its fifth round of participants, including a beer hawker, IT security executive, music therapist and a semi-retired luxury car salesman who will go head-to-head on Sunday, November 1 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) for the chance to take home the ultimate intelligence title. In last week’s episode, engineering student Katy Warren earned a spot in the season finale, and will have the chance to be crowned “Canada’s Smartest Person.”

In the fifth episode of the season, beer hawker Jakob Sanderson of Winnipeg, MB, IT security executive Alex Manea of Waterloo, ON, music therapist Jennifer Lam of Markham, ON and semi-retired luxury car salesman Barry Shulman of Thornhill, ON will go head-to-head, competing for a spot in the finale. The participants were chosen after under-going a rigorous application process including a series of tests to prove they have what it takes to compete for the title of “Canada’s Smartest Person.” Appearing as celebrity judges for this episode are Crash Gallery host Sean O’Neill and comedian Steve Patterson (The Debaters).

October 12, 2015 – CBC’s competition series, CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON, unveils its third round of competitors, including a winemaker, a police officer, a biomedical researcher and sales representative who will compete on Sunday, October 18 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) for the chance to take home the ultimate intelligence title. October 5, 2015 – CBC’s competition series, CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON unveils its second round of competitors, including a cheerleader, YouTube star, high-school teacher and radio host, who will compete on  Sunday, October 11 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) for the chance to take home the ultimate intelligence title. In the season premiere, Toronto rapper Anthony Craparotta surpassed his competitors and secured a spot in the season finale, for the chance to be crowned “Canada’s Smartest Person.”

September 23, 2015 – CBC’s ultimate competition series, CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON returns for its second season on Sunday, October 4 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT), hosted by Jessi Cruickshank and featuring an all-new roster of competitors and exciting celebrity guest judges. Thousands of Canadians applied and underwent a series of rigorous tests for the chance to compete in this epic intelligence showdown. Canada’s Smartest Person is a 2015 Rockie Award Nominee

Media Headquarters is please to announce it’s original hit format Canada’s Smartest Person has been nominated for a 2015 Rockie Award in the category Interactive Non-Fiction.

Canada’s Smartest Person was Canada’s number one new series of the 2014 Fall television season. The series features an interactive component that allows viewers to play along on mobile and tablet devices. The CSP app is one of the most popular interactive experiences ever produced in Canada, with over 180,000 downloads and one million intelligence tests completed.

The Rockie Awards, held each year as part of the Banff World Media Festival is the largest program competition of its kind, with industry members from over 40 countries participating in this prestigious awards program. April 8, 2015 – CBC’s popular competition series CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON is back for a second season, and inviting Canadians to compete for the ultimate title. The national search for competitors kicks off online today and interested participants can apply or nominate someone online at cbc.ca/smartestperson. Competitors don’t have to be a math whiz or trivia buff to apply.  Competitors last season were a diverse group of Canadians and included a radio host, an Olympian, a firefighter, a surgeon and a stay-at-home mom.

“Being on Canada’s Smartest Person was the opportunity of a lifetime,” says season one winner and law student Braden Lauer. “It’s challenging and a ton of fun! The experience itself is something that is unreal and I would recommend it to anyone.”

Based on the ground-breaking Theory of Multiple Intelligences, CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON redefines what it means to be smart. Competitors go head-to-head in mind-bending, action-packed challenges that showcase their strengths in six categories of intelligence: logical, visual, physical, linguistic, musical and social.  Most people excel in two or three of these categories, but only a few excel in all  meaning it can be anyone who takes the title.

CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON TAKES THE WORLD

Toronto, February 19, 2015 – Media Headquarters today announces a partnership with multimedia studio Electus and Barracuda Television Productions to produce its hit format Canada’s Smartest Person in the US market.

The factual entertainment format, originally developed in Canada for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, is a prime time competitive reality series in which competitors prove their smarts in unique challenges that go beyond trivia or IQ tests.

“The successful rollout of Canada’s Smartest Person proves that entertaining and accessible Canadian formats have a great chance for success beyond our borders. We’re thrilled to be working with Electus and Barracuda to bring this popular series to the US, and around the world,” said Robert Cohen, President of Media Headquarters.

Barracuda’s Barry Poznick will serve as Executive Producer. Poznick has created and produced dozens of hit TV shows airing in more than 150 countries around the world including Are You Smarter Than Fifth Grader?, Buckwild, and Family Game Night. The American adaptation of the format is currently being shopped to US networks.

“I love this format because it’s revolutionizing the way we judge who is smart. IQ scores don’t mean anything anymore… this is the new way to test intelligence. And it’s fun, physical, fast-paced and filled with surprising outcomes,” said Poznick.

Electus has licensed Canada’s Smatest Person to Turkey’s TRT and Sera Film for production, and has secured deals in France, Norway, Sweden and Portugal.

The program debuted on CBC in September 2014 and was Canada’s number one new series of the Fall television season. Canada’s Smartest Person also features a groundbreaking interactive component that allows viewers to play along on mobile devices. It is one of the most popular interactive experiences ever produced in Canada, with over 180,000 app downloads and one million intelligence tests completed.

November 23, 2014 – CBC’s CANADA’S SMARTEST PERSON, the number one new Canadian series this fall, has crowned Braden Lauer of Vancouver, BC with the coveted title of ‘Canada’s Smartest Person.’ Lauer emerged victorious in tonight’s two-hour season finale, beating out the seven remaining finalists in a series of all-new intelligence tests. The 22 year-old is in his second year of law school at the University of British Columbia.

Lauer has never paid a cent for his education, having received five different academic scholarships. He is on the board of the UBC Law Student’s Society and volunteers at Pro Bono Students Canada, an organization that provides free legal advice to those in need. In his free time, Lauer is an avid tarot card reader, a gift he sees as a marker of strong intuition.

“Being on Canada’s Smartest Person has been the opportunity of a lifetime,” says Lauer. “I hope winning the title inspires students and young people in the country to pursue their goals with passion and determination.”

Over the past nine weeks, Canadians across the country have been able to engage in real-time with the series’ unique intelligence tests and develop their own personal intelligence profile using the ground-breaking Canada’s Smartest Person app, brought to you in part by SUBWAY® Restaurants. The interactive experience has been a momentous success, with over 180,000 downloads it is CBC’s most downloaded interactive television app.  It also boasts over one million individual completed intelligence tests and over 6.6 million page views.

Based on nine weeks of competition on the app, Waterloo, ON has emerged as the country’s smartest city, and P.E.I. takes the title of the Canada’s smartest province.

The digital app generated compelling findings about Canada’s intelligence that were revealed in the finale, including:

• On the app and online, men outperformed women in the linguistic intelligence tests, which contrasts with scientific studies that suggest women have superior language and communication skills.

• Women excelled in social intelligence tests, scoring 6 percentage points higher than men overall with an average score of 62 points versus 56 points for men. Scientific literature has shown women display greater emotional awareness and this may factor into the point difference.

• In musical intelligence, Alberta emerged with the highest musical strength averaging 76 points across all music intelligence tests, while P.E.I. scored the lowest in this category with an average of 65 points.

Based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences, Canada’s Smartest Person, produced by production company Media Headquarters, features unique intelligence tests that redefine what it means to be smart. This original Canadian series, developed by Media Headquarters and CBC, is an international as well as domestic success, with the format being acquired to date in five different countries.
